Meet Darrell

Walk into our office at VGM Forbin, and Darrell's smiling face is one of the first things you see. As our Financial Account Executive, Darrell brings plenty of energy to the team, which is good considering he has to keep up with wife, Liz, and their three sons every day. Originally from La Porte City, Iowa, Darrell's career in the financial industry started at a small bank south of Chicago in 2004.

From there, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa to work in the electronic payments space for 12 years as a Client Executive. Darrell gained valuable experience serving community financial institutions across the United States, and eventually brought that experience to our team at VGM Forbin. Read our conversation with Darrell below to see how he works with our financial clients to meet their marketing and sales goals.

Us: What is your role at Forbin?

Darrell: As a Financial Account Executive, I help community financial institutions achieve their goals through web technology. Through discovery, I identify areas of opportunity where web technology could dramatically impact results. This could be through designing and hosting a website, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, social media management, custom online campaigns or several other services.

Us: Before working at Forbin, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Darrell: In college, I worked for a company that tested equipment used by electrical workers to keep them safe around power lines. It was my job to run high amounts of electricity through rubber gloves, rubber blankets, and rubber hose that covered power lines and expose the weak spots. I would then cut out the bad portion and certify the rest as being safe to use.

Us: Why are you passionate about assisting community financial institutions in online marketing and web solutions?

Darrell: In my time in this profession, I have seen first-hand how important a community financial institution is to their town and surrounding area. In this role, I am able to help financial institutions create a web presence that reflects their values and attracts others to want to do business with them and gives their existing customers a sense of pride and an easy to use site that they enjoy interacting with.

Us: Who are some of the mentors who have inspired you?

Darrell: I have been very fortunate to have been surrounded by some great leaders in my career who have taught me to approach each moment as an opportunity for growth and to then be able to help others with the knowledge that I have gained. On a personal note, my Father-in-law showed me the importance of always being there for your family and to enjoy life and never take it for granted.

Us: Where do you see the web and online marketing industry, specifically for financial institutions, going in the next 5 years?

Darrell: I see this becoming even more important to financial institutions in the next 5 years. As everyone moves to a “web-based society” it will be extremely critical for financial institutions to have a welcoming and easy to use site that works seamlessly across all screens (tablets, phones, monitors). Online marketing will become more competitive and community financial institutions will need to become more aggressive and intentional with their online marketing in order to compete with the mega-banks.

Us: What did you always want to try and never did?

Darrell: I think that it would be amazing to sing, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley Field.

 

Darrell truly is one of a kind which means he can help your financial institution’s web technology reach new heights. He leaves us with this great piece of advice, “When you take the family to Disney World, be prepared to spend $15 for a hot dog and don’t let that ruin your vacation.”
